How Old Are They In Stranger Things Season 1

Okay, can we talk about Stranger Things for a second? Specifically, how old these kids actually were when all that supernatural madness went down? Because honestly, it's wild to think that our favorite gang of misfits were basically still children when the Upside Down came knocking.

Eleven, our girl with the hair and the nosebleeds, was around 12 years old in Season 1. TWELVE. This child was escaping government labs, driving just as well as any forty-year-old on a busy street, and somehow making friends without even knowing what a toy is. Meanwhile, most of us were still trying to win at recess tag at that age. Iconic behavior, truly.

Then we've got Mike Wheeler, who was about 13. Our resident team leader was basically running a one-man recruitment service for the Dungeons & Dragons club and playing it extremely cool with Eleven despite clearly having no idea how to talk to a girl his own age. Relatable king, honestly.

His besties Dustin and Lucas were also around 13, just vibing, wearing their little hats, and carrying walkie-talkies like they were born to do it. Those three boys were the backbone of the entire operation, and they were basically doing homework on monsters after school. No pressure!

Will Byers was about 12, just minding his own business one minute and being snatched into a parallel dimension the next. If that's not the most unlucky preteen experience ever, I don't know what is. This kid really said "supper's ready" and then disappeared into another universe. Poor guy.

Now for the OGs — Nancy Wheeler and Jonathan Byers were roughly 16 or 17. They stepped in with flashlights and baseball bats like seasoned investigators, but don't forget, they were still teenagers dealing with breakouts and awkward feelings on top of saving everyone. Talk about a busy sophomore year.

And of course, Jim Hopper was an adult — the only one with an actual functioning brain cell at times! But even he was essentially parenting a bunch of kids who had more courage than most grown-ups on the show. You've gotta admire that.

What I absolutely love about all of this is that Stranger Things reminded us that age is just a number when it comes to bravery, heart, and doing the right thing. These kids faced unimaginable horrors and still made time for friendship, pizza nights, and movie marathons. Even if you feel too young or too old to tackle something big, remember — the Hawkins kids were just kids too, and they still kicked supernatural butt every single time.
